Apple Sales Grow Amid Down Trending Global Market

By

Gartner, a leading information technology research company has represented Apple as the lone PC manufacturer to witness positive shipment growth. The research firm has put Apple atop among the five global PC vendors in terms of worldwide shipments from 2014. However, the tech giant stands fifth in total sales scenario.

The global PC market is passing through a negative market trend since shipments have declined for the fourth consecutive year. Despite all market odds and surpassing earlier predictions, Apple has off beat Lenovo, HP, DELL, ASUS and ACER at least in respect of market growth over year-to-year (Y2Y) comparisons.

As per the Gartner report, Apple has shipped 5.7 million PCs during the fourth quarter of 2015 (Q4:2015) which is around 7.5% of global sales. Thus the company defeats all market competitors and becomes unique in posting 2.8% sales growth Y2Y. No other competitor succeeds in passing the negative barrier.

Apple has posted a sell of 5.5 million PCs during the same quarter of the previous year. Worldwide PC shipment figure goes to 75.7 million units during the base period and thus declines @8.3%, reports MacRumors.

Lenovo tops the sales list for 2015 with a record shipment of 57.1 million with 19.8% market share. The company has posted a growth of 3.1% Y2Y growth. HP takes the second position with 52.6 million PC shipments and 18.2% of the market share. HP has witnessed a negative sales growth of 4.4% during the year 2015, reports Appleinsider.

Gartner's study report seems to be pleasant for Apple, HP and Gateway since they have achieved sales growth in double digits. But the report appears grim for the market leader DELL, since the company somehow has managed 6.4% increase, reports Macworld.

Notably mentioning that data from Gartner is preliminary and the numbers may change. Last year, Gartner has predicted PC shipments of 2.1 million and 11.7% market share for Apple during Q4:2014. Those figures have been revised later with 2 million shipments and 11.6% market share.

In the US, Apple appears third in Q4 with 2.2 million shipments and 12.8% of the market with an increase of 6.5% Y2Y. Fourth-place contender Lenovo has shipped 2.1 million PCs and exhibited the highest growth rate of 21.1 percent.

US market leaders HP and Dell have shipped 4.6 million and 4.1 million units respectively. The companies have recorded 27.1% and 24.5% market shares. HP's quarterly performance has declined 8.4% Y2Y, while DELL dipped 1.5%.

A negative trend in global PC market continues for the fourth straight year. Surpassing all business odds, Apple has recorded a 2.8% sales growth Y2Y, according to a study report published by Gartner. The other four Apple competitors have failed to exhibit positive sales growth by any mean. However, unlike previous year, figures represented by Gartner may vary following further study.
