Aston Martin officially announced that it will build a brand new 5.2-litre, twin-turbocharged V12 engine, which is expected for release later this year.
Autoblog wrote that the carmaker's current cars, except the V8 Vantage, are powered by 6.0-litre V12. These are engines that were used since the DB7 Vantage that came out in 1999. The earlier models bring 420 horsepower, and the later Vantage GT12 kicks up to 600 hp. The newer engines may be less revvy, but they definitely have more torque, less emissions, and less fuel consumption.
According to a report from Autocar, Aston Martin is constructing a new power plant that can accommodate the manufacturing of the new 5.2-litre, twin-turbocharged V12 engine cars, which could be for the upcoming DB11. There have been rumors circulating for some time about the creation of a new V12 engine, and the British car manufacturer has finally confirmed it through a short video it has posted online. It shows the engine's components and an engine cover that says "V12 5,2 Twin Turbo," with a "Coming Soon" in the end.
The video was released by Gaydon and it shows that the new car will be revealed at the 2016 Geneva motor show. There is no official news from the company confirming whether the new unit will be used for the DB11, but it most likely would.
Meanwhile, Car Magazine has reported the new 2016 Aston Martin DB11 switches the car maker's V12 to forced induction in a time when other companies like Ferrari and Porsche are downsizing to cut emissions.
There are no official reports on how much power the new engine can give, but there are speculations that it will surpass Aston Martin Vanquish's 568bhp. There is a big possibility that the new engine will kick a 600bhp, making it the most powerful series in Austin Martin's V12 productions.
