Hilton Worldwide plans to launch new mid-market and premium brands in Indonesia. The International hotelier has currently two hotels in the country.
Martin Rinck, Hilton Asia-Pacific president, said they studied the Southeast Asian market and considers Indonesia as the "hot spot," citing massive urbanization and "more disposable income" for the country of 250 million people. Hilton will bring in Waldorf Astoria and Hilton Garden Inn brands to Indonesia. One of the pipelined projects is the Double Tree brand, which caters to the mid-market sector, but Rinck said they are also looking at one or two other assets.
The company, owned by Blackstone Group, operates about 4,000 hotels worldwide but runs the Conrad Bali and Hilton Bandung in Indonesia.
Rinck, however, said there's still room in the luxury space in the capital as he insists that "there's no reason why we shouldn't have Conrad in Jakarta."
Even so, "there's still room in the luxury space ... There's no reason why we shouldn't have a Conrad in Jakarta," he said, adding that Hilton is also studying other locations like Bandung, Surabaya and Bali, the popular island destination.
