On Wednesday, thousands of New Yorkers received America's Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response Alert. The Office of Justice's program called AMBER Alert alarmed people regarding a missing 7-month-old boy.
The emergency broadcast system was complemented by screeching tones. People of Manhattan were awakened by the alert which was now being weighed as an unnecessary interruption. The life-saving tool sparked debates about the efficiency of the government's investment. All the cell phones across New York received a message that read, "3:51 am AMBER Alert Manhattan, NY Amber Alert UPDATE: LIC/GEX1377 (NY) (1995) Tan Lexis ES300."
The New York City police stated that the baby was snatched by Marina Lopez, his bipolar biological mother. Due to the threat to the child's welfare, the cellphone AMBER alert was issued.
Federal Communications Commission and Federal Emergency Management Agency together with the wireless industry, offered the emergency alert system. The program utilized the latest technologies made by the telecommunications companies. The agencies' work with National Center for Missing & Exploited -Children which expanded due to fundings from federal funds and private equity firms' money.
