Fast food chain restaurant Carl's Jr. and Hardee's launched a $4 menu on Thursday. The value deal is called Real Deal, and it includes a Double Cheeseburger, Spicy Chicken Sandwich, fries, and a drink. By doing that, Carl's Jr. and Hardee's are raising the stakes in the so-called fast food value war that has been going on since last year.
Carl's Jr. and Hardee's are joining other fast food restaurants which mostly have launched their own value deal. Consumerist summed up the current package meal deals by fast food restaurants. McDonald's offers a discount menu where a customer can get two items for only $2. Pizza Hut offers a $5 price for items from a set menu if a customer buys at least two items.
The price war was soon joined by Wendy's, as they launched its 4 for $4 deal in October. Their value deal offers a junior bacon cheeseburger, chicken nuggets, fries and a drink. Before long, Burger King chimed in with their 5 for $4 deal. The menu set includes a bacon cheeseburger, small french fries, small drink, 4-piece chicken nuggets, and a chocolate chip cookie, as noted by TIME.
The Real Deal from Carl's Jr. and Hardee's seem to present itself as a competition in this $4 price war. Similar with previous fast food value deals by Wendy's and Burger King, Real Deal features a charbroiled Double Cheeseburger. But, in place of the nuggets, Carl's Jr. and Hardee's choose its popular Spicy Chicken Sandwich to be in the menu. The meal is also served with fries and drinks.
Chief marketing officer for Carl's Jr. and Hardee's, Brad Haley, stated, "The fast food industry hasn't seen this kind of a price war since the 90s, but other chains are now trying to fight the fight by promoting small amounts of food for a small amount of money. But, just because something's cheap doesn't mean it's a great deal."
Haley also explained, as quoted by Business Wire, that their restaurants are committed to offers the customers a real value option with their best menu for the best price. The restaurants also chose a four-time heavyweight champion, Evander 'The Read Deal' Holyfield as a new face for their ad campaign.
Carl's Jr. and Hardee's are owned by the same company, CKE Restaurants Holdings, Inc. CKE has now a total of 3,652 franchised and company-operated restaurants in 44 states and 36 other countries.
The CKE Restaurants are considered the last to join other fast food restaurants in the so-called price war with the launching of their $4 Real Deal. Fast food restaurants are reducing prices with the menu set offering eat-size products and is still competing to gain customer sales while also increasing revenue.
