OPPO Mobile Australia, a mobile phone company has introduced Aussie Emoji Keyboard reflecting the spirit of Aussie culture in emoji form. The keyboard features more than 40 Australian-themed emojis including Vegemite, the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Uluru and other common Australian phrases.
Emoji represents a small digital image or icon used to express an idea or emotion in electronic communication. The new emoji app can be downloaded from Google Play Store for free. However, only the android version of the app has been released initially, reports Herald Sun.
The word 'emoji' comes from Japanese language where e represents picture while moji for character. Emojis have become increasingly popular since their international inclusion in Apple's iPhone.
The inclusion has been followed by Android and other mobile operating systems. Apple's OS X operating system supports emoji as of version 10.7. Microsoft has added monochrome Unicode emoji coverage to the Segoe UI Symbol system font in Windows 8. It has also added color emoji in Windows 8.1 via the Segoe UI Emoji font. To send an emoji, it requires installing the app in the android device. Once installed, it will be available for use in any app that allows text entry. Facebook Messenger and Android's SMS messaging app let the users to insert texts. The recipient doesn't require downloading the app for receiving the emoji, according to a report published in Mashable. Emojis have become part of modern culture for the Australians. Three out of five Aussies considers emoji as the universal language for messaging, suggests an OPPO research. However, OPPO has been continuing to develop new emojis to be included in the next update, reports iTWire quoting Michael Tran, Chief Marketing Officer for OPPO. The first round of emoji covers the nation's culture, wildlife and tucker. Icons like the Sydney Harbour Bridge, "Stone the Flamin' Crows", Shrimp on the Barbie, and Budgie Smugglers have also been added. Users will be able to access the keyboard by tapping the emoji icon that floats on the side of the screen while typing text. The OPPO emoji is believed to attract Facebook stickers than the regular emoji. However, the Facebook emojis pose a short coming since it sends a single emoji at a time.
