Around 30,000 Greek workers mounted a protest rally in front of the parliament against the plan to slim down the bureaucracy as part of the austerity measure of the government.
The day-long strike against the new strategy to retrench state workers was timed to pressure lawmakers who are about to vote on the financial reform plan. The plan will be submitted to the International Monetary Fund and the European Union as a requirement to secure more loans.
The EU, IMF and the European Central Bank has already disbursed Eur 200 billion to Greece to prevent it from imploding.
The demonstrators made as much noise as they can. They were blowing horns and whistles, banging drums and steel in what appeared to be the biggest demonstration against the financial reform plan in 2013.
The parliament is split between firing off state workers, whose jobs are protected by the constitution. But everybody is in agreement that further belt-tightening measures and tax increases will cause the country to spin further out of control.
