Lamborghini has unveiled a new 770 horsepower (HP) supercar marking birthday century of the company founder Ferruccio Lamborghini. The new supercar has been introduced in the Geneva Motor Show on Tuesday.
The Centanario supercar has been sold out for $1.9 million. Only 40 of the stunning new car model have been building, but they are all sold out before getting introduced to public, according to a report published in Maxim.
The Lamborghini founder has died in 1993. He has created the car company in 1963 and become wealthy as a tractor manufacturer. According to the company profile, he has got tired of dealing with finicky Ferraris, reports CNNMoney.
Of the 40 Centanarios, 20 will be hardtop while the rest convertibles. The cars will be powered by V-12 engines, the most powerful Lamborghini has ever produced, according to a news published in Pittsburgh Sun Times. Lamborghini's signature V-12 rev limit may be raised from 8,350 rotations-per-minute (rpm) to an even more stratospheric 8,600 rpm. Acceleration from 0-62 miles-per-hour (mph) (100 kph) can be achieved in just 2.8 seconds while the top speed is more than 218 mph. The braking system may achieve 30 meter benchmark for stops from 62 mph. The Centenario's angular styling adheres to Lamborghini's current design language which has been pushed to new extremes. Air extractor vents in the hood generate aerodynamic down-force over the front axle. The limited production run is scheduled to start this fall and expected to continue throughout 2017. Consumers will enjoy the opportunity to specify any color or leave the carbon fiber visible as per their preferences. The strategy of producing limited production models will let Lamborghini exploring new design themes and technologies while boosting the brand image. The Lamborghini Centenario possesses all wheel drive in addition to four wheel steering. The back wheels will turn in opposite direction of the front for tighter cornering at low speed. However, the wheels will turn in the same direction at high speeds, for smoother lane changes. The Centenario has represented itself as a desirable collectors' car while demonstrating new Lamborghini technologies and outstanding performance, observes Stephan Winkelmann, the departing Lamborghini President and CEO. He will lead Audi's Quattro GmbH performance division in Lamborghini's parent company, Volkswagen.
