NEXON Co, a developer of online games, on Thursday, announced a definitive deal, whereby NEXON Korea Corp, a unit of Nexon, will purchase the entire outstanding shares from Big Huge Games. This transaction with Big Huge Games, the developer of DomiNations, will allow Nexon to offer long-term new content and exciting experiences for DomiNations users.
Nexon announced a planned partnership with Big Huge Games in July 2013, and DomiNations achieved international recognition with total downloads amounting to 19 million since its inauguration in April 2015. The combined team will offer complete DomiNations service, including support for players, game development service and also marketing.
While commenting on this transaction, Owen Mahoney, Nexon's chief executive officer and president, said that the main aim of Nexon is to support online game developers to reach their business goal. He added that DomiNations' success in Asian and Western countries motivates Nexon to improve its services for online game lovers along with Big Huge Games.
Big Huge Games' CEO Tim Train stated that the new partnership will allow the company to develop novel games with the help of skilled creators. He continued that Big Huge Games is delighted to join hands with Nexon in building a strong mobile game market. Nexon said it will concentrate on creating quality games by developing its business portfolio and establishing planned partnerships.
Owen Mahoney told GamesBeat that the approach handled by the creators team of Big Huge Games lured Nexon and motivated it to partner with them. He said that Nexon was inspired by the strategies used by Big Huge Games team during the launch and marketing of DomiNations. Moreover, Nexon knows everything about the company from its base level and that its vision is in line with that of Nexon.
He noted that recruitment at Big Huge Games will not be affected by this transaction. Mahoney added that this transaction will mainly involve Big Huge Games designing fresh games for Nexon rather than concentrating on further development of DomiNations, as reported by VentureBeat.
