"When it comes to the Internet, in the balance between freedom and responsibility, we have neglected our responsibility to our children," said British Prime Minister David Cameron in a speech today.
"My argument is that the Internet is not a sideline to 'real life' or an escape from 'real life'; it is real life," the British leader sternly said.
Cameron urged tech giants to perform better security and prevention of child pornography incidents on the internet. He called it a "moral duty" for these web firms. Earlier on, Google and Microsoft announced their support of the prime minister's campaign.
There is little detail regarding the pornography industry, but many who have been involved in the business claim that the market is booming. According to the New York Times Magazine's cover story, the adult entertainment industry earns between US$10 billion and US$14 billion, a figure which trumps any legitimate entertainment industry including professional sports and Hollywood.
