A slimmer Nexus 7 tablet was introduced by Google on Wednesday as the Internet search giant aims to make its presence felt in mobile devices. The new Nexus 7 basic version will cost USD 229. With 16 gigabytes of storage, it features a Qualcomm Inc Snapdragon processor. The original Nexus only had 8 gigabytes storage capacity and was priced at USD 199. In an interview with Reuters, Android and Chrome software head Sundar Pichai, says that the new tablet is going to be profitable for Google. "The new Nexus 7 is designed so that it's profitable for all the people involved. Retailers, us, everyone included," he said. Analysts had earlier noted that the first-generation Nexus 7 was only able to break- even.
Google also introduced Chromecast, a gadget that allows users to stream videos through their smartphones. By simply plugging it into a television, the $35 device enables users to view YouTube and Netflix videos.
