Jim Wang, Taiwan Merger & Acquisition and Private Equity Council Vice Chairman, revealed that a private equity fund executive who handles George Soros' Asian funds visited Taiwanese firms last month. Mr. Wang is also the chairman of Hong Kong-based East Asia Securities Company Ltd.

The private equity fund account manager under legendary investor George Soros had reportedly exhibited interest in investing in Taiwan corporations with unique concepts. Wang said that this could signify that Taiwan is indeed returning to the radars of private equity funds.

Wang pointed out that the objective of the private equity fund executive's recent visit to Taiwan was to hunt for local organisations eligible for a mid term to long term investment. The visit he said was not for his organization to engage in speculation.

The companies Soros Asia Fund executive called on included firms from various sectors. These companies included medical care firms, companies that focused on environmental protection, and food processing enterprises. Some companies who are engaged in nanotechnology and biotechnology were also part of the list.
