Through the release of Chromecast, it seemed that Google may have finally found a "surefire way to get the Internet on your TV". How about Google TV? Has everyone forgotten it? Was this the end for Google TV?
The answers to these questions lie in Sundar Pichai statement to CNET. "Google TV is moving forward in a major way," Pichai told CNET. "You'll see more partners announced at CES," Pichai added. CES or Consumer Electronics Show is an annual event held in January.
Last November 2012, the company held that Google TV was "making progress". The company did announce at one of its developer conference earlier in 2013 that Google TV was going to get an update to Jelly Bean operating system. The update was supposed to happen anytime during the third quarter of the year.
So, in short, Chromecast was not designed as a replacement for Google TV. It seemed that the two will co-exist in what appeared to be a two-pronged strategy to get the Web on all TV screens.
