Microsoft's top executive Steve Ballmer finally admitted what everyone in the industry knew already. In an announcement today, the chief executive officer said that the company failed to realize that there were just too many Surface RT tablets produced.
In a statement last week, the tech titan said that over US$900 million was burned due to terrible sales of its Surface RT device. During an internal company meeting this week, Microsoft's head admitted that their venture was a total disaster.
"We built a few more devices than we could sell," said Ballmer. "We're not selling as many Windows devices as we want to," the CEO admitted.
Even with initially favorable reviews from tech critics, the company's tablet offering struggled to gain interest from the market. According to an analysis from the Huffington Post, the reported US$900 million loss from Surface RT devices roughly translates to about 6 million units left untouched on retail shelves.
