Acer will recover and make profit again - President

The world's fourth-largest personal computer maker, Taiwan's Acer, would try to earn more this year. Acer's president told an Austrian magazine that the move would occur following the writedowns and poor demand that pushed the company into the red in 2012.

Acer president Jim Wong told Format magazine of Austria that the company underestimated the tablet computers' potential. This led the consumers to discard their laptops after the launch of Apple's iPad and other companies' tablets.

"In the last two years, we have put very much energy into the development of new tablets, notebooks and smartphones. We are recovering," Wong stated in an interview that was published on Friday. "This year we will first of all make a profit again."

Analysts forecasted that Acer would swing to a net income of TW$1.706 billion equivalent to US$57 million in 2013 from a loss of TW$2.910 billion last year. In 2009, Acer used to be the world's second-largest PC maker after Hewlett Packard. However, Lenovo already took Hewlett Packard's place followed by Dell.
