Strategy Analytic, a market analyst and research corporation, stated in its study that Samsung Electronics already became the most moneymaking smartphone vendor in the world. Samsung's second quarter earnings report proved that it could overtake its rival, Apple.
"Samsung became the world's most profitable handset vendor in Q2, 2013. Apple slipped into second position, as margins have been hit by lacklustre iPhone 5 volumes and tougher competition in China," Strategy Analytic said.
From the third quarter of 2009 to the first quarter of 2013, Apple was named as the most profitable vendor. Strategy Analytics attributed the South Korean handset manufacturer's growth to its strong volumes, high wholesale value and tight cost controls.
According to Strategy Analytics, 386 million units of mobile phones were shipped globally in the second quarter. Samsung occupied the top slot even in terms of the units that were shipped. Furthermore, Strategy Analytics said that 386 million units were shipped internationally during the second quarter. Samsung dominated the shipments with 107 million units sold. This accounted for 27.7% share. Samsung was followed by Nokia with 61.1 million units shipped and 15.8% share. Apple came after Nokia with 31.2 million units, LG with 17.8 million units and ZTE with 17.6 million units.
