The Thales Group said that they are set to seal the RM380 million deal with Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB), the national railway company of Kuala Lumpur. The deal entailed that the Thales Group will supply railway signaling simulators and equipments to KTMB. Sources said that under the terms of the deal, Thales Group will provide also provide the facilities and training syllabus to KTMB's Malaysian Railway Academy (MyRA) through its educational arm, Thales University.
The memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the KTMB and Thales Group is expected to be signed today. The signing will be witnessed by French Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault and Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak. The MOU was set by the Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT) and is aligned with the offset programs under Malaysia's Ministry of Defense. Malaysia's current offset objectives are twofold to include the development of the country's high technology sectors.
