Apple Inc. announced Sunday that Bob Mansfield will move out of its executive team in favor of working on special projects. Mansfield was senior vice president of technologies of Apple.
Mansfield took the helm in developing the popular MacBook Air laptop as well as several other Apple devices. However, at one stage in his stay at the company, Mansfield announced his plan to retire as head of hardware engineering. Still, last year, he chose to remain as the head of the semiconductor and wireless teams at Apple.
He is the latest addition to the "special projects" team of CEO Tim Cook. Mansfield will be joining Paul Deneve, former chief executive of Yves Saint Laurent, a French luxury group. Deneve was joined Apple last July.
Apple was considered an internet giant, with popular products such as iPhone, iPad, and MacBook. The company recently reported better-than-expected earnings boosted by strong sales from the iPhone. It reported revenues of US$35.3 billion for the second quarter of 2013 resulting in a 5% increase in shares to US$439.70.
