Kia has unveiled its Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) future strategy at the 2024 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. The Korean automaker's PBV business will initially be based on introducing an all-new, modular vehicle, previewed by the Kia Concept PV5.
According to TechCrunch, Kia recently unveiled at CES 2024 a new lineup of electric vans, trucks, ride-hailing, and last-mile delivery vehicles, all set to be built on its new modular platform.
In a press conference on Monday, Pierre-Martin Bos, vice president of Kia's new so-called PVB business division, announced that its first customer was Uber after forming a global partnership with it.
The PBV Strategy of Kia
The PBV strategy, presented alongside a multi-phase plan, aims to revolutionize the mobility industry and contribute to Hyundai Motor Group's broader goals in robotics, Advanced Air Mobility (AAM), and autonomous driving.
Kia's PBVs, as a total mobility solution, integrate purpose-built electric vehicles (EVs) with advanced software solutions rooted in the Hyundai Motor Group's software-to-everything (SDx) strategy.
This approach is expected to redefine the concept of space by offering advanced, tailored interiors that promise unparalleled freedom and flexibility.
Kia PBVs Is 'Enabler of Business Innovation'
Ho Sung Song, President and CEO of Kia, underscored the company's commitment to surpassing conventional automotive norms by addressing a wide range of customer and community requirements.
This involves delivering optimized vehicles and services tailored to specific market and business conditions. The PBVs are strategically positioned to drive business innovation, drawing on Kia's customer-centric management approach, expertise in electric vehicle mass production, and the evolving SDx strategy and related future businesses of the Hyundai Motor Group.
"Kia PBVs will be an enabler of business innovation thanks to our customer-centric management system, EV mass production expertise, and the Hyundai Motor Group's rapidly developing SDx strategy and related future businesses. We are excited to show that we are fully prepared to become the first mover in the global PBV market," Ho Sung Song said in a statement.
