Nintendo has been a home for portable video games and will forever be housing titles in years to come, according to video game developer and Oddworld Inhabitants founder Lorne Lanning. The same cannot be said with other mobile platforms, however. He said that Zynga or Microsoft might not make it as far as Nintendo could.
According to him, one of the reasons of Nintendo's fortitude is the management of Nintendo's chief executive officer Satoru Iwata. He said that the GameBoy creators are unlike other similar firms who damage their workforce's morale via layoffs. Depressing news of firings and cutbacks will equate to terrible games, he said.
"Laying off development is not going to solve our problems. Building great games is what we do and we're going to continue doing it," said Iwata according to Lanning.
He said that the CEO's outlook in firm management is a landmark in the industry. He believed that the company may last for an entire century, unlike Zynga which he predicted would fall into obscurity.
