Farmville might have been every Facebook user's casual game of choice a few years back. Today, almost half of the game's player base has left the fields dry.
The premiere social media games developer announced recently that it lost about US$15.8 million worth of profits in the second quarter. Forty-five percent of the company's players stopped playing Zynga's games, including Farmville.
For the three-month period ending in June 30, Zynga stated that it has gained US$231 million. In 2012, the company earned US$332 million during the same time frame. In an effort to gain more following and share of the market, the company released six new games within the last quarter. Some of which failed to gain any traction, such as Solstice Arena, Running with Friends, and War of the Fallen.
Other titles included Hidden Shadows, Draw Something 2, and Battlestone.
"The next few years will be a time of phenomenal growth in our space and Zynga has incredible assets to take advantage of the market opportunity," said the optimistic chief executive officer of Zynga, Don Marrtick.
