No More Saturday Post Deliveries? Royal Mail Might Scrap This

By

Royal Mail, a British postal service and courier company, might scrap Saturday post deliveries. This is one of the options to reform overall services.

According to BBC, the British regulator Ofcom is expected to publish a document next week outlining options on how Royal Mail can "evolve to meet consumer needs more closely."

Ofcom regulates the postal industry. When asked about the alternatives, they did not comment on what are those options.

What Happened?

Previous reports said that Royal Mail posted a £319m ($405m) loss for the first half of this financial year.

In November 2023, The Guardian reported losing its 360-year-old monopoly on delivering parcels from Post Office branches due to concerns about poor quality of service. This led the postal service to sign deals with rivals Evri and DPD in the run-up to Christmas.

Last year, the Post Office said that adding two couriers allowed customers to choose among the options for reforming.

Since 2020, the business has been requesting urgent reform. One of the options previously was instead of delivering six days a week, it would be five days, from Monday to Friday only.
