Ford Motor has ceased shipments of its 2024 F-150 Lightning electric pickup amid reports of Ford trucks piling up in storage lots around Detroit.
Ford Halts 2024 F-150 Lightning Shipments
According to Electrek, the halting of 2024 F-150 Lightning shipments earlier this month was attributed to an undisclosed quality issue, prompting the automaker to take proactive measures.
On the other hand, shipments of the first newly designed gas-powered 2024 F-150 resumed last week after a significant number of trucks accumulated in Detroit lots. A spokesperson for Ford disclosed to Automotive News the suspension of Lightning shipments on February 9 but did not specify its duration.
Emma Bergg, another Ford spokesperson, told Electrek that shipments of the MY24 Lightnings commenced the previous month, with plans to escalate shipments in the coming weeks after completion of quality assessments to uphold Ford's stringent standards and ensure customer satisfaction.
'Early 2024' Target of Ford
Although Ford expected to meet the shipment timeline in the "early 2024" timeframe, some trucks have been stockpiling in lots since December, leading to delays in the orders of some commercial customers.
Acknowledging the buildup of hundreds, or even thousands, of 2024 gas-powered F-150 trucks in southeast Michigan lots, another Ford spokesperson assured that the lots would gradually be emptied as the trucks are dispatched to dealers.
