According to Deetman, these staff reductions followed significant pay cuts undertaken by himself and managing director Paul Deetman. Both leaders voluntarily went without salaries for several months to navigate the studio through challenging times.
The studio is best known for its "Deliver Us" franchise, which includes titles like "Deliver Us Mars" released last year, and "Deliver Us the Moon" in 2018.
In a statement, Deetman expressed regret over the necessity of the layoffs, highlighting the management's responsibility to absorb the initial impact during difficult periods.
Wave of Layoffs in the Tech and Gaming Sector
Looking ahead, Deetman expressed determination to overcome the challenges faced by the studio, reaffirming their commitment to ensuring the well-being of their team and striving to prevent similar layoffs in the future.
"If you have positions available in Animation, 3D Art, Game Design and/or Narrative, contact us, so that we can introduce you to these amazing people, because this decision was not made because of who they are or what they do. These are great people that we would've loved to keep with us for many more years," Deetman said in a statement posted on X.
Keoken Interactive's recent layoffs happened amid the ongoing trend of workforce reductions across the tech and gaming industries as companies navigate evolving market dynamics and economic uncertainties.
