Australian billionaire Clive Palmer is resuming his ambitious project to construct Titanic II, a replica of the iconic ship that met a tragic fate in 1912.
According to CNN, Palmer first unveiled plans for Titanic II in 2012, followed by another attempt in 2018. Both were driven by a passion for maritime history and a penchant for grand ventures. As chairman of Blue Star Line, he also plans to operate the vessel on the iconic London-New York route across the Atlantic.
However, the project had stalled since 2015 due to a dispute between Palmer's flagship company, Mineralogy, and the Chinese Government-owned Citic Limited over unpaid royalties of hundreds of millions of dollars. Palmer cited Citic's reluctance to settle its financial obligations.
After a series of setbacks, including the global pandemic and legal battles, Palmer is reigniting the Titanic replica project, aiming to breathe life into his vision of reliving the legendary voyage.
His Titanic replica project was, unfortunately, not met with enthusiasm. When asked the reason behind his project, Clive Palmer openly states that his primary motivation is the venture's excitement and challenge rather than financial gain.
He remains "unapologetic" about his enthusiasm for the project, emphasizing the adventure and fulfillment it offers him and his future passengers personally.
How Clive Palmer Will Make The Titanic Replica
The Titanic II, created with painstaking attention to detail to mirror the appearance of its doomed ancestor, will showcase iconic features like the majestic grand staircase reminiscent of the original Titanic ship.
With this in mind, Clive Palmer also revealed intentions to kickstart construction by 2025 and work on finding shipbuilders before the year ends.
To make the Titanic II experience more "authentic," Palmer plans to offer passengers a choice to dress in 1900s attire. In return, the replica will provide the same treatment with a touch of modern amenities as well.
Clive Palmer sees Titanic II as a ship replicating the original journey from Southampton to New York and as a vessel that will sail around the world, attracting widespread attention due to its historical significance.
Still, business is business for the Australian billionaire. Using the Titanic II branding, Clive Palmer's company, Blue Star Line, will give special chances to partners all over the world to use the ship's story in their marketing plans. This will ensure that many people in many different places will learn about Titanic and get interested in partnership and business development opportunities.
In a video, Clive Palmer detailed the final technical specifications of the Titanic replica ship.
