Samsung is now planning to use its own Exynos chipsets for its next-gen Galaxy smartphones. This is quite surprising for the Apple competitor since it has been integrating MediaTek and Qualcomm SoCs.
But, Samsung needs to do this since the tech firm wants to save more money. Here's what consumers need to know about Samsung's latest cost-cutting effort.
Samsung Plans Using Own Exynos Chips
During the fourth quarter of 2023, Samsung only sold 13 million Exynos-powered smartphones. This is 48% fewer compared to what it sold in 2022 during the same quarter.
Because of this decrease in sales, Samsung took in around 44% less revenue from its Galaxy handsets powered by Exynos chipsets during Q4 2023 YoY, as reported by Phone Arena.
According to Sam Mobile's latest report, Samsung spent almost $9 billion on mobile chips alone. The price hikes in mobile chipsets greatly contributed to this spending. Samsung confirmed that in 2023, the chipset prices rose by 30%.
Once Samsung starts integrating its own Exynos chips, it could lower its costs. But, the giant gadget maker still needs to invest money in making its in-house SoCs more competitive.

What Samsung Consumers Can Expect
Right now, Samsung is already using its Exynos 2400 AP to power the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+. This advanced chipset is already competitive and is being compared with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC.
Aside from the two flagship models above, Galaxy A35 and Galaxy A55 are also using Exynos chipsets. Now, Samsung is planning to replace MediaTek SoS with its in-house chipsets on low-end models.
People familiar with Samsung's activities also believe that the new Galaxy S25 series will start using Exynos chipsets in 2025.
