Authorities have reported that the individual suspected of secretly filming minors in the restroom at Bojangles Coliseum has been discovered dead, in what appears to be a case of suicide.
A 61-year-old man named John Hastings Cutler IV was discovered dead at his residence on Thursday, March 28. The individual was accused of multiple charges related to inappropriate behavior in a public restroom.

The incident occurred on February 2t during a Charlotte Checkers game. Prior to taking their seats at a Charlotte Checkers hockey game, a parent, his 11-year-old son, and his son's 12-year-old friend, made a quick stop at the bathroom.
As the parent and his son patiently waited, they were startled to witness someone secretly placing a camera under the stall where the child was using. The son of the parent also noticed the camera and brought it to his attention.
The individual, later identified as Cutter, was confronted by the parent after exiting the stall. When questioned by the father, Cutler vehemently denied the accusation and promptly left the scene. Security was informed of the incident.
According to the affidavit, Cutter was captured on security footage entering and exiting bathrooms at the venue on the day of the event. This includes entering the specific bathroom where the incident with the 12-year-old occurred, precisely when it happened.
Authorities were able to identify a possible vehicle belonging to the individual in question through surveillance footage. Police later observed the vehicle registered to Cutter parked outside his home.
After an extensive investigation, authorities executed a search warrant at Cutler's residence. According to authorities, several electronic devices were confiscated, including a recording device disguised as a key fob.
According to officials, this device was identified as the one used during the crime. Investigators examined the footage on the device and discovered seven distinct videos of minors utilizing the restroom.
Cutler was Facing Charges
Authorities said the videos were all captured on the same day at Bojangles Coliseum. Cutler was charged with the following offenses related to the incident:
- Engaging in surreptitious photography, 4 charges
- Engaging in voyeurism with a camera, 3 charges
- Accused of having a photo obtained through illegal means, 7 charges
Cutler had a troubling past, with a criminal record that included a conviction for indecent liberties with a child in 1999. In 2008, Cutler reportedly approached a woman and requested permission to take a photograph of her son.
