A pregnant woman from Texas has filed a lawsuit against Walgreens after an employee shot her seven times in the store parking lot.
Alleged Pregnant Shoplifter Sues Walgreens Employee For Shooting Her
The incident occurred last April at the East Nashville Walgreens when employee Mitarius Boyd suspected Travonsha Ferguson and her friend of shoplifting.
Boyd, alerted by another employee, allegedly saw the women placing items into a cart and an over-the-shoulder bag and began recording them with his cell phone. He followed them as they exited the store without paying and approached them as they loaded items into their trunk, according to a report by Fox News.
According to Ferguson's lawsuit, Boyd aggressively confronted them without identifying himself as an employee, prompting her to spray him with mace out of fear for her safety and that of her unborn baby. Boyd then fired up to seven shots, reportedly serious injuries to Ferguson and her baby.
Admitting to police that he used his pistol and unaware if the women were armed, Boyd called 911 after the shooting. Ferguson was hospitalized in critical but stable condition and underwent an emergency C-section.
Feguson's Health Issues
Ferguson's lawyer, L. Chris Stewart, highlighted her ongoing health issues and her baby's life-altering heart defect.
Boyd, fired by Walgreens for violating company policies, cooperated with detectives, surrendering his gun and cell phone as evidence.
Stewart condemned Walgreens for the employee's actions, labeling the shooting as outrageous and intolerable conduct.
However, Walgreens has not provided an official comment due to pending litigation.
