Microsoft Teams Unbundled From Office 365! Should Users Be Concerned?

By

Microsoft Teams will be unbundled from the Microsft Office 365. This was announced by the software giant via its official blog post, which was published on Apr. 1.

This might sound like an April Fools Day joke. But, based on its announcement, the separation had to be done because of intensifying antitrust pressure in the EU.

Microsoft Teams Unbundled From Office 365

According to Yahoo News, Microsoft is splitting the Teams business video and messaging app from its Office 365 software bundle.

Microsoft spokesperson Robin Koch explained that making this change is needed to ensure clarity for their consumers. In 2023, the American tech giant already separated the Teams from its Office 365 in the EU.

Now, Microsoft said that this business change will be rolled out in regions outside Switzerland and the EEA. Specifically, the tech firm said that it will introduce a new lineup of commercial Office 365 and Microsoft 365 suites in these regions.

Aside from this, a new standalone Microsoft Teams for Enterprise customers will be offered in regions outside the EEA and Switzerland.

Should Microsoft Users Be Concerned?

Existing Microsoft customers will be able to keep their current deal. This means that if they have the Teams bundled with Office 365, then they can continue using it as is.

"As in the EEA and Switzerland, customers with existing subscriptions that include Microsoft Teams will be able to continue using plans they have already chosen," said Microsoft via its official blog post.

However, new customers will have to purchase the new Teams Enterprise, which is expected to cost $5.25. Meanwhile, they have to pay $7.75 to $54.75 if they want to avail the new Microsoft 365 and the Office 365 suites.
