[SURVEY] Should Employers Shoulder Commuting Expenses? 8 Out of 10 Employees Say Yes

By

A new survey revealed that 8 out of 10 employees want their employers to shoulder their commuting expenses. Nowadays, most businesses try to encourage their workers to return to the office.

These include free snacks, recreational activities, and trendy office decorations. However, the SaaS communications platform Ringover revealed that most employees only want one thing if they return to offices.

Should Employers Shoulder Commuting Expenses?

According to Business Insider's latest report, 8 out of 10 employees in Ringover's survey will return to offices if their companies pay for their commute.

"Eight out of 10 employees would be encouraged back to the office if their commute was paid for by their organization," said the Ringover.

Statistics showed that employees spend an average of $8,466 yearly ($700 per month) commuting to their offices. Their expenses include car maintenance, gas, car insurance, etc.

This is a drastic increase compared to the commuting expense record in 2019, which was lower than $2,000 in some states, such as West Virginia.

Commuting Consumes A Lot Of Time

Aside from increased spending, employees no longer want to commute because they realize how much time they have to spend just to go to their workplaces.

Although commute times are shortened in some cities in the U.S., the average one-way office commute is still around 30 minutes. This is almost an hour of commute from going to the office to commuting home.

Workers who experienced remote jobs realized that they could use the time they spent to commute for other better things in their daily lives.
