Elon Musk to Meet the Prime Minister of India

According to BBC, Elon Musk confirmed on his social media platform, X, on Wednesday that he will visit India to meet Narendra Modi without giving a date.

"Looking forward to meeting with Prime Minister @NarendraModi in India!," the Tesla CEO wrote.

Musk's announcement came a few days after the Indian government lowered import taxes on certain electric vehicles (EVs) produced by carmakers, which committed to investing at least $500 million and setting up a factory within three years.

This new policy was established so that India could attract more EV automakers like Tesla to invest in the country.

Elon Musk, India Prime Minister Meeting Hints Massive Investments

BBC reported, citing a senior Indian government official, that the meeting is scheduled for the last week of April and will take place at Narendra Modi's residence in New Delhi.

According to NDTV, the Tesla CEO will be accompanied by other executives during his visit, but the final trip agenda could still change. BBC reported that Tesla has plans to start manufacturing in India, which will likely be discussed in the meeting.

Musk met the Indian Prime Minister in New York in June when the tech billionaire said that Modi was pushing them "to make significant investments in India, which is something that we intend to do."

The Tesla CEO also said at the time, "I am confident Tesla will be in India and will do so as soon as humanly possible."

An announcement by Tesla that it would invest in India ahead of the six-week-long elections that begin on April 19 would reportedly boost Modi's business-friendly credentials.
