Honda to Roll Out 6 Next-Gen Electric Cars in China by 2027

By

Honda Motor recently unveiled plans to launch six next-generation EV models under its newly introduced brand "Ye" by 2027.

Honda Looks to Jumpstart Brand with China EV Launch

According to Electrek, Honda's decision comes amid increasing dominance by domestic automakers like BYD in the Chinese market, compounded by a 10% decline in Honda's sales in the region last year.

The company's aim to jumpstart its brand in China is evident through the introduction of the "Ye" series, which is positioned as its third brand in the country after e:N and Lingxi.

The report suggests that the Ye series, distinguished by a new "H mark," will offer a range of next-gen EVs explicitly tailored for the Chinese market. The first set of models includes two electric SUVs, the Ye P7 and Ye S7, slated for release by the end of this year.

These models, built on a dedicated EV platform, promise advanced features such as single and dual-motor 4WD versions, catering to different driving preferences. The interior design is set to incorporate LED lights on the instrument panel and door panels, with AI-driven functionality.

Notably, the Ye GT Concept, featuring a sleek design and innovative interior layout resembling a race car, is scheduled to hit the market by the end of 2025. This model will include a far-focus display, providing a unique driving experience akin to a private theater.

Honda's Ambitious China EV Goals

Furthermore, Honda aims to solidify its commitment to the EV market in China by launching a total of 10 Honda-branded EV models by 2027, with the ultimate goal of achieving 100% EV sales in the country by 2035, Reuters reports.

This ambitious target underscores Honda's determination to catch up with its European and U.S. competitors and contend with the burgeoning competition from Chinese EV manufacturers.

In a bid to fortify its position, Honda is also considering partnerships, as evidenced by discussions with rival Nissan Motor on collaboration regarding key components and software. This move reflects the industry-wide trend towards collaboration and innovation in the EV sector.
