But what does this effort mean to passengers and drivers? Here are the latest details.

Uber's Verification Pilot Program Launches!

According to Click On Detroit's latest report, the new Uber verification pilot program has been launched in Detroit, just one of the first cities in the U.S. to get it.

The American ride-hailing company said that starting on Thursday, Apr. 18, it will start sending verification badges to selected riders and drivers.

They will see them on their app. More are expected to receive these verification badges as the program expands to other U.S. cities.

What Uber Verification Program Means To Passengers, Drivers

CBS News reported that the program would review names and phone numbers. Uber will cross-check them with a third-party database to verify drivers and riders.

Uber drivers will automatically become verified if there is no identity issue. However, if their information can't be validated, they must send a copy of a government-issued ID, such as a passport or driver's license.

The transportation service provider said that the main goal of the new verification pilot program is to prevent fraud. By verifying the identities of its riders and drivers, Uber can provide passengers with a safer experience.
