Duterte-China West PH Sea sale agreement speculations are spreading again after thousands of Chinese students were spotted in Cagayan.
Did the former Philippine president really sell the West Philippine Sea territory to the Chinese government? What's the connection of this allegation to the increasing number of Chinese students in Cagayan? Here are the latest details.
Duterte-China Agreement Speculations Spread Due To Increasing Chinese Students in Cagayan
According to Rappler's latest report, the number of Chinese students is drastically increasing in Cagayan. Various reports stated that 4,600 Chinese students were enrolled in Cagayan's higher education institutions.
Because of this, the House of Representatives issued a resolution raising concerns regarding the increasing number of Chinese enrollees in the province. However, Cagayan's HEIs refuted the resolution.
Although SPUP, UCV, and MCNP denied the allegations, claiming that the raised concerns were a display of racism, many Filipinos began spreading rumors about the Duterte-China West PH Sea sale deal.
Some claimed that the former Philippine president had an agreement with the Chinese government, possibly selling the West Philippine Sea territory to Xi Jinping.

Duterte's Alleged Gentleman's Agreement With China
Philstar reported that the House of Representatives is preparing to probe the so-called "gentleman's agreement" between Rodrigo Duterte and Chinese President Xi Jinping on the West PH Sea conflict.
House Majority Leader Manuel Jose Dalipe said they will look deeper into this unwritten agreement between the two leaders. He added that if proven true, the deal could be an "act of treason" on Duterte's part.
"... The House will consider the call to probe the supposed gentleman's agreement when Congress resumes its regular sessions on April 29," said Dalipe.
He added, "The House is committed to conducting a comprehensive and fair inquiry to clarify this critical national issue."
As of this writing, it isn't proven if Duterte really sold the West Philippine Sea to China or if he had other deals with Xi Jinping involving the territory.
