Google is accused of making it harder for a rival email service to search for on its search engine. Because of this, Tuta Mail complained to EU regulations.
The German-based encrypted email service provider claims it hasn't appeared in Google searches for "encrypted email. However, the American search engine says otherwise.
Google Allegedly Makes It Harder To Search Rival Email Service
According to BCC News' latest report, Tuta Mail complained to EU regulators that Google is blocking it from its searches for encrypted email. Because of this issue, the German email company believes its business has been damaged.
Tuta Mail explained that the issue happened because Google's search algorithms were changed, as reported by PYMNTS. It added that these adjustments disproportionately impacted its ranking.
Tuta Mail already filed a formal complaint to the DMA task force, claiming that its presence suddenly declined drastically across various search queries after the EU's new Digital Markets Act was implemented.
Google Denies Tuta Mail's Accusations
Google denied Tuta Mail's allegations against it. The American search engine giant claimed that the rival email service is still easily accessible.
But, before this issue happened, Google confirmed that there would be more fluctuations in rankings than usual because of the algorithm changes it implemented in early May.
However, the tech firm clarified that these updates did not favor any particular website, even its own site.
"Search ranking updates absolutely do not aim to preference Google products, or any other particular website. The email provider in question is easily accessible globally on Search," explained Google.
