IBM, Canada, and Quebec decided to work together to strengthen the Canadian semiconductor industry. This was confirmed by the Government of Canada, the Government of Quebec, and the International Business Machines Corporation on Friday, Apr. 26.
IBM, Canada, Quebec To Strengthen Canadian Semiconductor Industry!
According to IBM's official press release, the multinational tech firm, the Canadian government, and the Government of Quebec entered new agreements. Their efforts reflect a combined investment valued at over $136 million.
"Today's announcement is a massive win for Canada and our dynamic tech sector. It will create high-paying jobs, invest in innovation, strengthen supply chains, and help make sure the most advanced technologies are Canadian-made," said Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
"Semiconductors power the world, and we're putting Canada at the forefront of that opportunity," he added.
About IBM-Canada-Quebec Agreements
Yahoo Finance reported that the new agreements of IBM, Canada, and Quebec will further develop the ATP (assembly, testing, and packaging) capabilities of semiconductor modules in Canada.
These semiconductor modules will be used in a wide range of applications, such as automotive, telecommunications, high-performance computing, computer networks, and generative AI.
In addition to improving Canada's ATP capabilities, IBM said it will conduct R&D to create methods for scalable manufacturing and other advanced assembly processes.
This effort would allow IBM to support the packaging of various semiconductor technologies in Canada, enabling the country to further its role in the North American chip supply chain.
