South Korea-AUKUS, Defense Tech Collaboration, Could Happen

Based on its defense officials' discussions, South Korea is considering collaborating with Australia, the UKUK, and the USUS to improve its defense capabilities.

As South Korean Defense Minister Shin Won-sik confirmed on Wednesday, May 1, SoKor wants to take advantage of the AUKUS defense framework.

"Korea's defense science and technology capabilities will contribute to the peace and stability of the development of AUKUS Pillar Two and regional peace," he explained via Nikkei Asia.

To give you more idea, the AUKUS pact has two cooperative activities. Shin Won-sik referred to the second one, allowing AUKUS participants to research advanced defense innovations. These technologies include quantum tech and artificial intelligence.

What South Korea Plans To Offer

According to The Associated Press, South Korea plans to share advanced military technologies with the three countries in the AUKUS pact. SoKor is quite strong in semiconductor technology.

This is thanks to the continued investments made by SKSK Hynix and Samsung Electronics into mass-producing next-gen chipsets. There's a high chance that South Korea will share its semiconductor technologies with the US, the UK, and Australia if military collaboration happens.

The South Korea-AUKUS deal could allow the four nations to enter cooperation in a broader range of security technologies. These include hypersonic systems, electronic warfare, and AIAI.
