The U.S. government announced fresh sanctions against Chinese and Russian suppliers on Wednesday, May 1. Hundreds of companies from Russia, China, and other countries are affected.
US Sanctions Hundreds of Chinese, and Russian Suppliers
According to NDTV World's latest report, the U.S. Treasury Department said the new sanctions affect almost 300 entities from China, Russia, and other countries.
These suppliers are sanctioned because they allegedly support Russian President Vladimir Putin in his invasion of Ukraine.
"Treasury has consistently warned that companies will face significant consequences for providing material support for Russia's war," said U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen.
She continued by saying that by focusing on Russia's military-industrial base, the most recent sanctions will weaken and impede Russia's attempts at invasion. In addition, the sanctions would target the evasion networks that help Russia supply it.
Suppliers Affected by New US Sanctions
Yahoo News reported that the suppliers targeted by the new U.S. sanctions are located in China, Russia, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Slovakia, Belgium, and Azerbaijan.
Among them is a China-based company that allegedly exported items for the drone production of a Russian firm. Others are Chinese and Hong Kong-based tech suppliers.
A senior State Department leader said that the U.S. Treasury Department and the Biden Administration are focusing on the entities in China that allegedly supplied Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
She added that the People's Republic of China is the leading supplier of critical components in the Russian defense industrial base.
