NIO Inc. has recently joined forces with Guangzhou Automobile Group Co., Ltd. (GAC Group) to establish a unified battery standard and enhance charging solutions.
According to Electrek, this collaboration follows NIO's recent agreements with Lotus Technology, indicating a concerted effort to pioneer standardized EV technologies.
With over 30 million successful battery swaps globally by October 2023, NIO proves the viability of this technology as an alternative to conventional plug-in charging.
NIO Inks Deal with GAC Group for Unified Battery Standard
As stated in a news release, the partnership with GAC Group seeks to achieve several key objectives, including the development of a unified battery standard and the joint creation of passenger vehicles equipped with battery swap capabilities.
Both companies aim to develop battery swap stations compatible with their respective EV models and launch vehicles designed under joint standards. Additionally, they plan to advance the implementation of swap stations catering to both NIO and GAC vehicles.
Feng Xingya, President of GAC Group, stresses the significance of battery swapping in addressing users' needs without dedicated parking spots and expresses optimism about the partnership's potential. He remarks, "Battery swapping will unleash unlimited market opportunities, especially in cities."
