The FDA said over 85,000 versions of a mobile app called t:connect, developed by Tandem Diabetes Care, are being recalled due to a software glitch.
According to CBS News, the software recall for the Apple iOS-based app pertains to Version 2.7. This version is compatible with the t:slim X2 insulin pump that features Control-IQ technology.
The problem can lead to the app crashing and restarting repeatedly, which can quickly drain the battery of the pump. When the pump is shut down, the delivery of insulin is halted, leading to the possibility of hyperglycemia or ketoacidosis.
This condition can be extremely dangerous and may require immediate medical attention or even hospitalization. Tandem is strongly advising patients and physicians who use the device to promptly update the app to version 2.7.1 or later.

Tandem Diabetes Care issued an Urgent Medical Device Correction on March 26, notifying affected customers about updating the mobile app to version 2.7.1 or later in the Apple App Store.
Customers were asked to fill out an online form to confirm that they received the notice. They were also reminded to follow the instructions in the User Guide and to be vigilant about any system alerts or alarms.
It is important to closely monitor the pump battery level to ensure it is fully charged before going to sleep and to start charging the device after the first low battery alert, the USA Today reported.
It is strongly advised for individuals to have backup supplies for insulin delivery in the event of pump failure.
