Meta and Apple in Race to Develop First Non-Invasive Neurotech for Healthcare

Neurotechnology, powered by artificial intelligence, might be the next big thing in healthcare.

While the notion of implantable devices translating brain signals is not new, recent AI advancements are fast-tracking breakthroughs, motivating tech giants to lead the charge in pioneering health innovations.

According to Yahoo Finance, Meta and Apple are competing to be the first to develop AI-powered neurotechnology that doesn't require invasive procedures.

Meta and Apple's AI-powered neurotechnology

Meta's Fundamental AI Research (FAIR) team is deeply immersed in the exploration and comprehension of human cognition. The tech giant is particularly committed to committing massive resources and expertise to understand the mechanisms of the human brain, which is valuable for advanced neurotechnology solutions.

Meanwhile, Apple is innovating the EEG (Electroencephalography) technology, already widely used in AirPods. With this, Apple seeks to democratize brain activity monitoring, making it more accessible and user-friendly for individuals.

According to experts, neurotechnology is not far-fetched. Even Elon Musk's Neuralink seamlessly made waves with its brain-computer interface (BCI), per VCPost. Though it encountered setbacks, Neuralink's brain chips are now in motion to extend to other capabilities.

Regardless, the idea that tech giants can interpret our thoughts raises major ethical concerns. Advocates for neurorights are calling for legislative measures to protect mental privacy in light of this technological advancement. They fear that our last remaining sphere of personal data could be compromised without proper protection.

Neither Meta nor Apple has commented on these concerns, yet their competition continues unabated.
