US President Joe Biden made another false inflation claim. Aftermath: Criticisms were renewed on social media. Some Americans even said that the American leader is nothing but a liar.
Joe Biden Makes False Inflation Claim Again
Recently, Joe Biden announced new tariffs on China. During his speech, he decided to defend how he handled the US economy. But, he acknowledges that inflation is significantly affecting Americans.
"Inflation has gone slightly up. It was at 9% when I came in. And it's now down around 3%," said the US president via Fox News.
This isn't the first time that Biden made this claim regarding inflation. Previously, he also said in another interview that the inflation was at 9% when he became the president.
"No president has had the run we had in terms of creating jobs and bringing down inflation. It was 9% when I came into office, 9%," said Joe Biden.
Is Joe Biden Lying? Here's the Truth
Various fact-checkers confirmed that Joe Biden's reference to 9% inflation was false. The rate was actually at 1.4% when he officially took office.
According to the US Inflation Calculator, the inflation was 1.4% in January 2021, when Biden became the US president. After that, the inflation rate increased monthly until it reached 6.2% in October 2022.
This means the inflation rate didn't drop when Joe Biden became the president. Instead, it increased continuously during his first year. Because of his false remarks, many people criticized the American leader again.
Among them is US Rep. Jim Banks, who said on X that "all Biden does is lie!" Washington Examiner Editor-in-Chief Hugo Gurdon also slammed Biden, saying that it's no wonder their message isn't working because it implies that "voters are fools."
