Krispy Kreme is planning to expand its reach by selling donuts in more McDonald's branches and other restaurants abroad.
Krispy Kreme president and CEO Joshua Charlesworth made this announcement during a recent earnings call to discuss the company's first-quarter financial results.
Krispy Kreme Aims to Increase its Points of Access
Krispy Kreme refers to points of access as any place where fresh donuts are available for purchase. The company plans to boost its global points of access from 75,000 to 100,000, fueled by its new partnership with McDonald's.
Krispy Kreme said McDonald's may account for more than 12,000 of its new points of access in the US by the end of 2026. With its partnership with McDonald's, the donut brand expects to almost triple its US points of access from 7,775 to over 22,000 before the end of 2026.
The company could also reach 33,000 global points of access by the end of 2026 as it expands in France, Germany, and Brazil. This expansion will largely use existing capacity, but Krispy Kreme also plans to invest in increasing production hubs to support the growth.
Krispy Kreme Hubs
The Krispy Kreme hubs are locations where fresh donuts are made and prepared for sale. To enhance its capacity to support the expanded network, Krispy Kreme plans to add about 30 new hubs in the US.
"We are modernizing how we make and move doughnuts to ensure high quality, profitable growth. Our Delivered Fresh Daily expansion is accelerating into more grocers, convenience stores and quick service restaurants," Charlesworth said in a press statement.
"We're excited about our recently announced agreement with McDonald's, which is expected to add more than 12,000 new points of access in the US by the end of 2026. We'll support much of this nationwide rollout using existing capacity, while adding distribution with other major customers as we grow," he added.
