Nestle announced Tuesday (May 21) that it will launch a suite of high-protein and high-fiber food products for people taking the weight-management drugs Ozempic and Wegovy.
In a press release, the Swiss food giant said that the 12-item food line, called Vital Pursuit, would help consumers "support a balanced diet" for those undergoing weight management and would be "portion-aligned" for those taking weight loss medications.
The Hill reported that the Nestle line-which includes whole grain bowls, protein pasta bowls, sandwiches, melts, and pizzas-would be offered at a suggested retail price of $4.99 or below.
Reuters additionally reported that the food line is expected to be offered at selected retailers by the fourth quarter of this year.
Nestle's Food Development Prompted by Weight Management Issues
Nestle's US meals division president, Tom Moe, said that they developed the line after noticing a growing number of Americans taking GLP-1 medications, also known as semaglutides, saying that the medications were significantly reshaping the approach to weight management.
Initially, Ozempic and Wegovy were intended and prescribed for Type 2 diabetes patients to regulate their blood sugar. However, the off-label use of the drugs for weight loss has since increased significantly in the United States in the past few years.
A recent KFF poll revealed that one in eight adults has been taking a GLP-1 drug, with a third of those using it saying that they use it to lose weight.
