Amazon's AWS To Help Italy's Data Center Expansion

Reuters reported that AWS is in discussions with Italy regarding a potential billion-dollar investment in the country's data center business. This partnership could see Amazon Web Service expanding its current site in Milan, potentially bringing significant economic benefits to the region.

Aside from this, the retailer's computing arm might also consider opening a new site. As of press time, the spokesperson for the cabinet's office digital transition department and AWS haven't commented about the investment.

How Much Money Will AWS Invest in Italy?

Since Amazon's AWS and Italy are still discussing the data center expansion effort, it isn't clear how much money the computing unit will invest in the European country.

Investing.com reported that the tech giant firm has made a bold announcement- it plans to invest a staggering 2 billion euros (over $2 billion) in Italy by 2029. This commitment comes after the successful launch of its first cloud region in 2020, demonstrating AWS's long-term dedication to Italy's data center industry.

One source familiar with AWS's initiatives said that its investment in Italy could reach billions. However, it might not be comparable to the scale of its investments in Spain.

In 2021, AWS unveiled its $17 billion (15.7 billion euros) investment in the data centers of Spain's northeastern Aragon region. In addition to Spain and Italy, Amazon is investing in other countries, such as Germany.
