A man, who remains unidentified, tragically jumped over 80 feet from the Icon of the Seas shortly after leaving Florida.

The shocking act prompted a rapid search and rescue mission by the dedicated crew of Royal Caribbean and the US Coast Guard. 

Royal Caribbean Passenger Jumped Off Cruise Ship

The incident occurred when the ship was approximately 300 miles away from PortMiami. The vessel was halted for approximately two hours as the crew provided assistance during the search and rescue operation.

The cruise ship's crew swiftly responded to the situation, deploying a rescue boat to locate and bring the individual back aboard, according to the Coast Guard's statement.

Despite their efforts, the man was ultimately declared dead. According to Daily Mail, passengers took to social media to share images of the rescue operation, expressing relief as the search efforts persisted and reports emerged that the individual had been found alive.

The individual was in a critical condition upon being returned to the ship, but unfortunately, was later pronounced dead.

Royal Caribbean's Icon of the Seas

The Icon of the Seas, with a capacity for 7,000 passengers and 2,000 crew members, was embarking on a seven-day journey around the Gulf of Mexico when the unfortunate incident occurred. The return date to Miami is set for June 1.

It has visited two ports, one in Honduras and the other in Costa Maya, Mexico, New York Post reported. The massive ship spans an impressive length of 1,200 feet (365 meters) and boasts an impressive 20 decks. 

With a crew of 2,350 and a staggering 2,805 staterooms, it has the capacity to accommodate up to 7,600 passengers. In addition to these features, the ship offers a stunning 55 ft. artificial waterfall, a wide selection of 40 dining venues and bars, and an impressive seven swimming pools, including a massive 40,000-gallon "lake."

Entertainment is also top-notch, with 50 talented musicians and comedians, along with a 16-piece orchestra.
