A massive Ticketmaster data breach was confirmed while the American ticket distribution and sales company faced a lawsuit filed by the US Department of Justice. Hackers behind the cyberattack stole data from over 560 million users.
Massive Ticketmaster Data Breach Leaks Over Half a Billion User Data
The hacking group behind the latest Ticketmaster data breach is the ShinyHunters, as reported by LifeHacker. The cybercrime group stole 1.3TB of data from half a billion users.
As of press time, ShinyHunters is selling the stolen user details on Breach Forums to interested buyers for $500,000.
Stolen data reportedly includes names, contact numbers, email addresses, physical addresses, and debit and credit cards (last four digits)-the cybersecurity attack against Ticketmaster while it's facing a lawsuit filed by the DOJ.
Ticketmaster Faces Lawsuit From DOJ
Many critics said the data breach against Ticketmaster may be karma for what it has done to concertgoers for the past few years. According to Mashable SE Asia, the ticket sales firm faces an antitrust lawsuit.
The US Department of Justice filed it to break up the alleged monopoly that Ticketmaster's parent company has been conducting. DOJ officials have accused Live Nation of engaging in monopolistic practices since it merged with Ticketmaster.
They added that the parent company has been preventing concert venues from using other ticket platforms through anti-competitive means.
