China to Impose Export Bans on Some Aerospace Equipment, Citing National Security Concerns

By

Chinese officials said on Thursday, May 30, that they would limit the export of certain aviation and aerospace components and technologies beginning in July in an effort to protect the country's security.

A statement from the Ministry of Commerce indicates that the new regulations aim to enhance national security and meet international duties, such as non-proliferation. The announcement was made in collaboration with the Central Military Commission's Equipment Development Department and the General Administration of Customs.

Export Permits to Be Required For Certain Aerospace Vehicle Commodities

Starting July 1, export permits will be required for certain commodities, such as software, hardware, and technology used in the production of gas turbines, engines, and structural components for aerospace vehicles, as reported by CNBC. Notably, export limits are already in place for certain molds, fiber materials, and other similar things worldwide.

In a statement, China made it clear that it is opposed to any area or country that uses controlled items to do things that harm its national security, development, or sovereignty. The spokesperson also clarified that the new regulations do not target any particular nation or area.

China Defending Its National Security

China and the United States have both previously stated their intentions to limit the export of certain technologies, equipment, and materials in order to protect their respective national security.

In response to weapons shipments to Taiwan, the Chinese government imposed sanctions on Boeing and two other military firms last week.
