Zecotek Photonics Inc. received its first order from Hamamatsu Photonics of Japan for its patented Lutetium Fine Silicate (LFS) scintillation crystals. Worth CAD 500,000 the initial batch of Zecotek's scintillation crystals will be utilized for medical imaging, particularly in third party positron emission tomography (PET). The deal came after Canada-based Zecotek and Hamamatsu Photonics announced their partnership earlier this month. Their alliance was aimed at commercializing imaging technologies that are already in the market. They also agreed to work together in upgrading and manufacturing their various products.
Chairman, President and CEO of Zecotek Photonics Dr. A.F. Zerrouk, said that order marks Hamamatsu's contribution to their partnership. "This initial order underlines the significance of the strategic partnership and cooperation between Zecotek and Hamamatsu. We have always believed in the cost/performance superiority of Zecotek LFS crystals. It has, however, been a challenge penetrating the large-scale imaging markets. Hamamatsu's partnership removes barriers and opens imaging industry opportunities for Zecotek products. We look forward to growing the partnership as we move ahead to capture a substantial share of the imaging markets," he added.
