The United States (US) has added three more firms to a list that blocked imports from companies that are allegedly linked to Uyghur forced laborers in China.

This move, announced by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on Tuesday, targets sectors deemed vital to Xinjiang's economy and aims to keep products made with forced labor out of the US market.

US Blocks Imports From Products Produced by Uyghur Forced Laborers in China

Electrolytic aluminum maker Xinjiang Shenhuo Coal and Electricity Co., shoe manufacturer Dongguan Oasis Shoes Co., and food processor Shandong Meijia Group Co., also known as Rizhao Meijia Group, have been added to the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act Entity List, which bans the importation of goods into the US produced in China's western Xinjiang region, where labor camps for Uyghurs and other Muslim minority groups were allegedly established.

The Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act prohibits the importation of all products from Xinjiang unless companies prove that production does not involve forced labor.

In a statement, the DHS said that starting June 12, goods produced by the three companies will be prohibited from entering the US.

"The Department of Homeland Security will not tolerate forced labor in U.S. supply chains and will enforce our laws across all industries and sectors," said DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas in the statement.

"We will continue to investigate companies that use or facilitate forced labor and will hold those entities responsible. We urge stakeholders across industry, civil society, and our international partners to work with us to eliminate the scourge of forced labor," he added.
